Shih Tzu Rescue of Central WI

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your adoption area?
We place dogs in forever homes throughout the state of Wisconsin. We currently do not adopt out of state.

How do I adopt a dog?
Our adoption process starts with the application on our website. Click on the Adoption Application link, fill in the required information and click submit.

When will I hear from you?
Once your application is viewed you will receive an e-mail asking you to contact your vet and groomer so that we may proceed with the application. Most applications are viewed within 24 hours of receipt.

What will you ask the vet?
We check to make sure all current animals are up to date on shots, heartworm testing and preventative. Spayed/neutered and receive dentals if needed.

What will you ask the groomer?
We will ask how your dog behaves for grooming, what shape it is in when it visits the groomer and if you can maintain additional Shih-Tzu.

What if I don’t have a vet or groomer?
If you do not have any animals we will check 3 personal references. We prefer that only one be a family member and that all of them have dogs and have seen your family interact with dogs.

What happens after my references are checked?

We will set up a home visit where a volunteer from our organization or another rescue/shelter will come to your home to conduct a brief interview and discuss any concerns you may have.

After the home visit can I come and get my dog?

Once the home visit has been completed we will be in touch to set up a time for you to come and meet/adopt the dog you are interested in. Each dog is required to have a current certificate of veterinary inspection when they are adopted, it may take a week to get the dog to the vet.

How long does the process take?

Everything can usually be completed within 2 weeks of us receiving the application. In some cases if a dog needs further medical care things can be delayed, but we will keep you informed of the situation.
